You guys know I love bags and I have a super fun sewing project for you today. I can’t wait to show you How To Sew A Simple Clutch Purse! This cute little purse is just what you need to carry your essentials on the go. I love having a smaller bag for those times I don’t have to carry my huge purse. When I came across this cute purse I knew that this was what I had been looking for in a smaller bag.  This is great for carrying my phone, wallet, and a few beauty supplies I always carry around. I use this little purse on date nights with my husband when I know I won’t have to haul everything but the kitchen sink for the kids. This is a super easy sewing project, perfect for beginners. I was able to make this project in about half an hour. I actually sat down and made one for myself and one for each of my daughters. They get their love of bags from me so I figured we all deserved something cute and new. I used this fun donut print fabric, but you could make this in your own favorite print or a fun solid color.

When it comes to supplies for this project you will not have to have too many items. I put some fusible interfacing in the list if you decide to add it to add some stability and rigidity to your purse, but it is not required. I have added a link to that below if you want it. For the fabrics for our project, we have chosen this donut print, but you can choose anything that you would like. You can even use some scrap fabric too! You’ll only need a few basic sewing tools, some thread, and a snap plier set. Don’t worry, the snaps are super simple to install and work great. I recommend getting a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler if you intend on sewing more projects as it makes it so much easier to get nice straight cuts in your fabric.

How To Sew A Simple Clutch Purse

layout and cut fabric for clutch purse

Start this how to sew a simple clutch purse sewing tutorial by organizing your supplies and laying out your fabric. I like to wash, dry, and press my fabric so that it is clean and easy to cut, but it is up to you. If you do decide to use interfacing for this project, DO NOT wash or dry it as it will ruin it. Once your fabric is prepped, cut one piece of fabric print and one piece of solid 7 inches wide and 20 inches long. If you decide to add interfacing, you’ll cut two pieces of interfacing this size as well. Place them together and on one end that is set to be the top of the purse fold together and cut to round out the ends.

fold fabric up until you are 4 inches from top

If you are adding interfacing, fuse it to the wrong sides of your fabric now. Otherwise, lay the printed fabric right side down. Place the solid fabric on top. Press it flat, then fold the fabric pieces back in until it is about 4 inches from the top. Press.
