What You’ll Need:

floor pillow Supplies

Don’t you just love projects that do not require a treasure hunt to find the materials needed? You might have the materials you need for this sewing project on hand, but just in case you need to do a little shopping, I have linked some of the items below.

How To Make A Floor Pillow

Lay out fabric and cut

The first step on this how to make a floor pillow sewing tutorial is to lay out the fabric, doubled. Use a circular item or a pattern made with poster board to cut the item out. Use the rotary cutter or scissor and cut all the way around the edges.

Pro Tip: The Best way to make the circle is to fold the fabric where it is the largest. Then use an item like a tray, bowl, or larger circle to cut out the circle in the fabric. Two other ways the circle can be done is by using a measuring tape to measure the middle and with pencil and string draw out a circle. The last way is to draw out a circle on poster board, cut it out, then use it to cut the fabric.

Measure handles

Next, you are going to place the two pieces of fabric with the right sides facing each other. Take the belting piece and measure it to the size you would like the handle to be.

Place handles on pillow

Now place the handle where the loop is in the inside and the edges are pointing out.

Clip handle in place

Next up on this how to make a floor pillow sewing tutorial, you are going to clip the handle in place. There have been times I didn’t clip the handles and was just going to eyeball it, well let me just say that my project didn’t have handles. So clip the handle in place so you don’t forget either.

Clip all around the edges

Now you are going to clip around the entire pillow leaving one space open. This space is left open for you to turn the fabric right side out, otherwise, you will have to rip your seam and start the sewing over.

Sewing around the edges

Now on this how to make a floor pillow sewing tutorial, we are getting to a fun part! Sewing! Sew along the edge of the pillow circle leaving a space about 2 inches wide, open for flipping the fabric right side out.

Pro Tip: I like to backstitch on the belting handles just to make them more secure for handling. If you have kids, then those handles will take a beating.

Flip right side out

Next up you are going to flip the fabric right side out through the hole you left open. Now grab your poly-fil and stuff the pillow full! You can stuff it to the desire you prefer.

Stuff with poly-fil and sew shut

For the final step in this how to make a floor pillow sewing tutorial, you’ll simply stitch the hole closed on the machine or if you prefer by hand once you have added the poly-fil. The round floor pillow is now ready for plenty of floor fun!
