How To Make A Felt Turkey Plushie With Free Printable Pattern!
The first step in this how to make a felt turkey plushie with free printable pattern sewing tutorial is to print turkey pattern pieces on heavy card stock paper. Then, cut out each piece and use them as templates to trace and cut out the appropriate color felt pieces. You could use the same colors I did or mix it up. It doesn’t matter as long as you use the pattern pieces correctly.
Next, we will start making the feathers and the body. Sew the tailpiece (A) to the back of the body (B) using a hand stitch like a blanket stitch. Set it aside.
Now we will work with the front side of the feathers (the other piece B). Start by placing your orange piece (D) in the correct places. TIP: you can tack these down with a very small amount of glue so they don’t move around on you. Sew each orange piece (D) into place.
Now on this fun felt turkey plushie sewing tutorial, move on to the smallest feather, the yellow piece C. Repeat the same process you did for the orange pieces. You should now have a completed front feather piece.
Once you have those in place, put the back piece (B) you made earlier together, right sides out, and start to sew them together along the outside. I recommend starting at one of the points marked with a square on your pattern piece.
Sew around the feathers for your turkey plushie and stop when you reach the other square on your pattern. You can see where I started and stopped in the photo above.
Stuff the body with cotton fluff and use a blunt-ended tool to help push it into the feather areas. Once the feathers are fully filled out, then stuff the main part of the body.
Now you just need to finish sewing around the body to close the gap you left to stuff. We are about halfway through this how to make a felt turkey plushie with free printable pattern sewing tutorial!
Next, we will work on making the head for our turkey plushie. Sew the eyes (F) onto one of the head pieces (E). Sew the snood (the red part that hangs off the nose) (G) in place and then sew the beak (H) on last.
Begin sewing the two-piece E’s together to form the head. This project is just so cute. I love how it is turning out!
Stop about 3/4 of the way so you can insert some cotton fluff as you did with the body. Finish sewing around to close the gap.
For the last step in this how to make a felt turkey plushie with free printable pattern sewing tutorial, we just need to join head to the body using a hot glue gun or craft glue. I did this by placing a generous amount of glue on the back of the headpiece and pressing it firmly against the body.
And that’s it! Now you know how to make a felt turkey plushie with free printable pattern! This is such a fun sewing craft for Fall! I love themed crafts like this and this one is so cute.
