We have a super easy sewing project for you today! I’m going to show you How To Make a Pillowcase! This is such a handy skill to have. Recently, I was going through my linen closet and realized it was time for a major update. I threw away all of the mismatched and stained pillowcases and picked out some cute fabric to make some new ones with. I went with a nice neutral color and stripe pattern, but you can choose some fabric that matches your decor or pick a vibrant color to add some contrast. I am really good about getting a new pillow every couple of years, but I often overlook the pillowcases. This project gave me a green light to add some fresh patterns to my linen closet and it turned out great. You can make these in about 15 minutes or less. Pillowcases are the sort of thing that you can never have too many of. I also made some to match the decor in my guestroom, but for everywhere else this pattern will be fine. This is a great project if you are just starting out in sewing! I remember when I was first getting started, I struggled to find easy projects that were also useful. Making your own pillowcase is a wonderful skill you can use for years to come.
You’ll only need a few supplies for this sewing project. You’ll need about 1 yard of fabric. I picked out some blue striped fabric for this, but you could use whatever you want to mix and match with your decor. You could also use up some of your scrap fabric pile if you have one started. I used a soft cotton fabric for my pillowcase. Once you have your fabric picked out, you’ll want to pick some matching thread. I went with white. As far as tools go, obviously, you’ll need your sewing machine, some bobbins, something to measure your cuts with like a fabric tape measure or a ruler, some sewing clips or pins, and some scissors. I highly recommend investing in a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler set as it is much faster and easier to get nice, straight cuts with as it stays super sharp for a long time. It is also a great option if you aren’t comfortable making longer cuts with scissors. So, gather up all your supplies and let’s get started!

How To Make A Pillowcase
Start this how to make a pillowcase sewing tutorial by washing, drying, and pressing your fabric. I find this makes it easier to cut as the fabric is nice and flat, plus the process acts as a preshrink for your fabric so your stitches don’t get messed up the first time you wash this pillowcase. Once you have done that, lay your fabric out so you can measure your cuts. You’ll need to cut your fabric to be 44×36 inches. I listed some standard pillowcase sizes above in case you need a guide. Now, fold the fabric in on the shorter sides about 1/2 inch and press with an iron.
Place the two outer sides together. The wrong side of the fabric should be facing outward. Pin together
Now on this how to make a pillowcase sewing tutorial, it’s time to sew! Stitch down the side and the bottom.
Next, flip the top down 4 inches while the fabric is still inside out. Pin in place.
Press with an iron and head back to the sewing machine. You’ll want to stitch along the bottom of the fold. Flip the pillowcase right side in when you are done.
