How To Make A Stuffed Animal With Free Pattern

Step 1. Prepare Pattern

The first step in this how to make a stuffed animal with free pattern is to wash, dry and iron your fabric. Once you have done that, use the stuffed animal template to cut out your pieces with your scissors. The template comes with ears for a cat, rabbit, and pig nose, and snout. That way, you have a few choices of animals to make.

Start by placing the heads on the body, right sides together, matching up the straight edges. Sew a 1/4″ seam allowance. Then press the seams open.

Next on this how to make a stuffed animal with free pattern, prepare the ears. Place them right sides together and sew an 1/8″ seam allowance across the side edges.

Then trim the corner and turn them right side out and press with an iron.

Clip some darts in the seam allowance, without cutting your stitches, so when you turn it right side out, it will lay nice and flat.

Take one of the body pieces and embroider the face on. I drew the face with a pencil so I had a guide while embroidering.

Sew on the lines with black thread to make the face.

Next on this how to make a stuffed animal with free pattern tutorial, we need to stack our pieces together and sew the stuffed animal closed. Place the piece with the face, face up. Place the ears pointing down at the top of the head.

The corners will poke out a little bit in order to catch all the raw edges. Then place the back of the stuffed animal face down. Pin or clip everything together. Sew a 1/4″ seam allowance leaving an opening for turning, I left my opening on the side of the animal where I had a straight edge, instead of on a curved edge.

After sewing the stuffed animal clip darts all the way around. We do this on curved edges in order for the curves to turn without puckering. And since this whole thing is curved, clip all the way around.

Now turn right side out and press seams flat with an iron.

Then stuff with polyfill fiber.

Lastly, we need to hand stitch the cat stuffed animal closed. Follow this tutorial if you need a refresher.

Here it is all finished. Now you know how to make a stuffed animal with free pattern!
