This project is broken down into two sections. First we share how to make the scrunchie, and then we share how to make the tie. The first step in this how to make knot bow scrunchie tutorial is to cut 1 piece of fabric 3″ x 24″.

Once you have done that, cut a 6.5″ piece of 3/8″ wide elastic.

With right sides of fabric together, sew it into a long tube using 1/4″ seam allowance. Don’t sew all the way to the end. Leave about an inch to an inch and half at each end for attaching and allowing the threading of the elastic.

Sew together the right sides of the ends of the fabric.

String elastic through using safety pins.

Pull fabric together until ends of elastic meet. Sew ends of the elastic together going back and forth several times to secure.

Sew opening closed using a straight stitch very close to the edge of the fabric.

How To Make the Tie

Cut 2 pieces from the pattern.

Sew them with right sides together leaving a 1.5 inch opening for turning right side out.

Turn right side out and sew the opening closed with a top stitch.

Tie the tie onto the scrunchie where you closed the hole on the scrunchie.
