For this project, I used a combination of fabric I had in my scrap pile and a kitchen towel I had laying around. I thought these colors coordinated well. Spend a little bit of time picking out a cute combination. Next, you’ll need some matching thread so it doesn’t stand out from your chosen fabric. As far as tools go, you’ll need some fabric scissors or, my personal recommendation, a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler as it makes cutting of all kinds so much easier. You’ll need some way to mark your fabric – I always go with a washable fabric marker. You’ll also need some sewing basics like pins or clips, an iron or heat press, and of course, your sewing machine. Gather up all the supplies from the list below and let’s get started on this fun project!

How To Make A Kitchen Boa Towel Scarf For Beginners

Start this how to make a kitchen boa towel scarf for beginners tutorial by washing, drying, and ironing your fabric. This process acts as a preshrink so that when you wash this kitchen boa the first time, your stitches don’t get messed up. Once you have done that, you can cut out your fabric. I used a kitchen towel I had at home along with some fabric. My towel, when unfolded is 20”x30”. Cut your towel at the middle fold, so you have 2 halves that will measure approx. 20”x15”.

From your cotton fabric, cut a piece that is 42” long and 10” wide.

Fold your fabric lengthwise with right sides facing and using a warm iron, press along the fold. At the open ends, fold under 1”. If you need to, pin or clip the open edge.

Now on this kitchen boa towel scarf sewing tutorial, it’s time to sew! Using a ¼” seam allowance, sew along the open edge, leaving the ends open.

Turn the fabric right side out, making sure the ends are folded in.

Place your towel right side up and using a warm iron, press the raw edge of your towel (where you cut it in Step 1) up ¼”. Fold again and press. Repeat on the other piece of the towel.

Head back over to your sewing machine. Using a ¼” seam allowance, straight stitch the hem closed. Repeat on the other piece of towel.

Now on this how to make a kitchen boa towel scarf sewing project, fold your towel in thirds and then in half.

Using a warm iron, press the fabric once more, making sure the ends are still folded under and crisp.

Repeat for the other fabric piece.

Slip one of the short ends of the towel about a 1” down into the pressed end of the fabric. Using a straight stitch, sew across the fabric, closing the end. Repeat on the other side.
